A BIG THANK YOU, upcoming events, and how you can volunteer.

With the help of many people, movie night was a huge success. Thank you to the CES Staff who volunteered: Mr. Bailey, Mrs. Power, Mr. Gadson, Ms. Ferre, Ms. White, Ms. Lee, and Mrs. Gummeringer. Thank you to John Juppe and his team of WatchDOGS, and A special thanks goes out to Irene Easter who helped with some last minute must haves and also handled the bike raffle!  The students really enjoyed seeing the administration and some of their teachers in attendance, Mrs. Lawhorn, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Herring, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Ester, and Mrs. Loiselle.

The 1st Ledo’s pizza night is tomorrow Monday, October 2nd. Which class will win the trophy??? Please dine in or carry out from 4pm to closing to give our school credit. A portion of all sales go to the CES PTA to help support programs & initiatives. There will be a trophy for the class with the most participation.

Junior Achievement day is, Monday October 9. Students participate in the Junior Achievement (JA) program, teaching them about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on instruction. JA is taught in each classroom by adult volunteers (e.g. parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.). Students grades K-5 have begun using the Accelerated Reader program.  We are in need of volunteers to help count up the number of Accelerated Reader (AR) quizzes each student completed and to put together a bag of rewards for each student.  The bag of rewards will be sorted by teacher.

Volunteers needed and weekly reminders

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Instructional volunteers are needed to participate in Junior Achievement Day on Monday, October 9.
Students participate in the Junior Achievement (JA) program, teaching them about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on instruction. JA is taught in each classroom by adult volunteers (e.g. parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.). This is a great opportunity to participate in your child’s education.
We will have a training session on September 25, 2017 at 6:30 in the Media Center.  This will be a one-hour training session will be made available to all adult volunteers.   While optional, it is strongly recommended that you attend.  Your individual instructional kits will be available for pick up at that time.

Complete the required AACPS background check by completing the online form at https://md02215556.schoolwires.net/Page/1869.  The background check takes 15 minutes to complete, and approximately 10 days to process.  It is a prerequisite before you can volunteer or be a chaperone.

PTA news to know

Family dinner night on 10/6/17 is something for the entire family that you do not want to miss. The food will be catered by Carrabba’s Italian Grill and the menu will be Chicken Marsala, penne pomodora with Caesar salad for the adults and penne pomodoro with meatball for children. There will be two seating’s one at 5pm and on at 7pm. Cost of tickets is $10 for adults and children over 10 and $5 for children ages 10 and under. Family Dinner Night – raise a fork to raise funds!

Raise a Fork to Raise Funds!

Come and join the CES community for a family style dinner. We’re very excited to be hosting this new event at the school. All proceeds from the event will be used toward helping the PTA fund the new math and accelerated reader program for Crofton Elementary School.

There will be a 5:00 pm seating and a 7:00 pm seating for this event.

Dates to know and link to vote for movie night

It’s hard to believe that, even with a long summer, the first day of school for most of our students is already approaching. After you wave goodbye to your student on Tuesday, stop by to visit the PTA for donuts and coffee, starting at 8:45am out front of the school. The first few days of school can be emotional “Tears” and exciting “Cheers” ! We look forward to meeting you!

Exciting things are happening this week!

We know there are a lot of kids excited to see who their teacher and classmates will be! Class lists will be posted outside the school’s main entrance on Wednesday, August 30 at 5:00.

Thursday,  August 31st at 2:00 is new student orientation followed by teacher meet and greet from 2:30-3:30. Teacher meet and greet is open to all grades. We will have props available for pictures so have your phones/cameras ready!!!

Watch D.O.G.S (Dads of Great Students) will host their pizza kickoff on September 13th at 6:30 pm in the schools cafeteria. This is a great opportunity for the men in your child’s life to volunteer at our school. Children love seeing their fathers, uncles, and grandfathers walking the halls, volunteering during recess, lunch, and so much more.
